QUICKDRAW - Ready. Set. Draw.
Nathan Wieler: What existing website or web-based technology would be best for holding a real time "quickdraw" competition with tablet-pc users and/or stylus pen users?
October 22, 2010 @ 06:41 PM EDT
A web-based competition where participants are asked a series of questions or given concepts (one at a time) and they have a very short period of time to draw a picture and upload it to the web (maybe 5 - 15 minutes total). Submissions are then voted on in an even shorter period of time. After each "round" votes are tallied and the winner of the round is announced. Winner of the most rounds is announced the QUICKDRAW champion and awarded a prize.
The competition revolves around first impressions both from the participants and the judges.
Participants with tools like Tablet PCs and devices that allow you to write and upload may have an advantage - we'll see.

John Eder: It would be interesting if the drawing took place directly on a website. Not sure what tools/engine this would require, but my instincts tell me this is doable. Of course those drawing with tablets versus mice do gain an advantage. Perhaps technology like http://www.alii.tv/ will allow people to use their webcams and hands as surrogates for tablet PCs.

Jake Favour: There are a variety of methods for drawing, whether it's pen to paper, a tablet, a mobile app or just steam on the shower door. Contestants duel it out in Nathan's Quickdraw Competition. I'm ready for the next one!

THE FACILITATOR / PROJECT MANAGER
Really, this is the #1 thing I'm looking for. Someone who likes this idea and wants to step up and organize it. I promise it will be a ton of fun and we'll get lots of participants. We'll have participants submitting "quick drawings" from all over the world. We'll have some great results. Lots of frequent tablet-pc users (and upcoming Apple tablet users!) will love this ongoing project / contest / competition.
Once we have The Facilitator in place we'll map out the plan and make this an amazing project.

Che Patterson: What are the submissions evaluated on? Is it only for artists or can anybody join in?

Nathan Wieler: the whole idea of the quickdraw competition is that it is based around first impressions. so the participants are given topics, ideas, words, phrases and they have a very short time to draw it and submit it. then, all of the submissions are judged very quickly as well. so both the submissions and the judging are totally based on first impressions. i think the results may show the participants they are better artists than they think and spark a lot of creative stuff. by the way check out "the artist within by whitney gilbert", i'm hoping we can bring her into this project.
