Monday Morning Quarterbacks
Braden Hanson
My idea is one that I am actually knowledgeable about. I played with TJ Yates over the past 3 years and it always irritated me at how fans would boo him and constantly criticize and question him as a player. I knew he was good, and obviously the coaches in the NFL thought so too because he was one of only 12 quarterbacks to be selected in the 2011 NFL draft. Football is the most watched sport in America and there is no shortage of fans who love to read or share opinions on their favorite teams or players. My idea would allow former quarterbacks and coaches (collegiate or professional) the opportunity to share the knowledge they acquired through years of studying the game of football. They could break down film of the each NFL game as seen through the eyes of the quarterback, eventually offering their insight and critique on a designed website. Because there are 2 major families of offenses in the NFL, it would be imperative to hire individuals familiar with both of them. Ultimately, the premise behind my idea is to hire people with an expertise on playing quarterback rather than people with a degree in journalism. I would market the website by getting football fans realize they are getting the inside, behind the scenes look into what actually takes place during each play in a game.
My original thought would be to pay each person a small fee for each game that they break down on film. They would only be hired part time for the months Sept-Jan, or during football season. My belief is that many former players and coaches would love nothing more than to put all the knowledge that they have about playing quarterback to use. Because of this, I don’t think it would be terribly difficult to assemble a team of experts. I also think that it would be appropriate to charge a subscription fee, but I have not made up my mind on the exact amount. Because it’s a new and unique idea, competition is limited. The biggest obstacle would be to differentiate from the stereotypical headline stories on nfl.com or espn.com. If that could be done, then assembling and sustaining a loyal group of customers would be the next priority. Ultimately, my thought is that if it can be successful on a small level, other larger NFL websites might see an interest in buying it.

I have some knowledge behind my idea, and I have connections with players and coaches who do as well.
Jim Kitchen: There actually could be a solid business model around this idea, similar to rivals.com

Jeff Snell: In addition to comments already made I do not believe it is realistic to believe a former pro player or coach is going to do anything for "a small fee".

Braden Hanson: I think its very believable that former quarterbacks or coaches would want to show off their knowldge about something they love for a "small fee". Im not suggesting that I would hire Peyton Manning, but rather someone with far less of a profile and less money.

Douglas Baker: I simply don't see a business model. Who is the customer? How does the business reach, maintain and monetize and perform related activities in connection with the customer? Perhaps if more detail is provided in connection with the concept, something substantive will emerge.
